Chicago (blur 2), by Christian Gates St-Pierre

Today's photo of the day is "Chicago (blur #2)" by Christian Gates St-Pierre. Christian hails from Montreal, Canada; if I'm not mistaken, I believe the model-looking effect was created using something called "fake tilt-shift" technology, in which one uses Photoshop to recreate an effect you used to only be able to get from double-lens cameras (think of those giant antique ones with their own tripod), by literally tilting and shifting the angle at which the two lenses interacted with each other. Modern cameras, on the other hand, are known as "single-lens reflex," which means you can no longer do this manually; here instead are some detailed instructions for doing it digitally, for those who are interested, and here's one of many Flickr groups devoted to the subject, for those who would like to see more.

Don't forget that I actually maintain a whole page of favorite photographs over at Flickr, for those who would like to see more. To express an interest in having your own work featured, just drop me a line at cclapcenter [at] gmail.com.
