Today's recommendation, the online Flash application Rsizr, was originally picked for a very simple reason: because it will take an image you upload, resize it to whatever dimensions you want, then spit the resized image back out within a matter of a second or two, all for free. And as we all know, for amateur photo buffs like myself and millions others, such simple features as resizing are half the reason for us to own such expensive image-editing software as Photoshop to begin with; and the more services like Rsizr to pop up for free online, the less reason there is for us amateurs to fork out that obscenely expensive bill for such software as Photoshop.
But then I got to reading through Rsizr's blog while there, and realized something else about the service; that it is also a showcase for a new experimental algorithm invented by its founders, which will actually analyze your photo if you ask it to and figure out where best such resizing cuts can be made. So in other words, if you have an image of two people on either edge of your photo, and with a lot of boring unnecessary things in the middle, and wish to make that a smaller image, this new Rsizr algorithm will figure out to just cut the section in the middle, leaving the people the same size but the overall picture smaller.
I haven't tried it myself, so can't attest personally as to how well the algorithm works; it definitely sounds interesting, though, worth checking out more, and let's not forget also does a perfect job at the simple image resizing I was recommending it for in the first place. I highly recommend stopping by and trying it out yourself sometime, whenever you have the chance.
