Obsession of the moment: The Take Away Shows

The Take Away Shows

So I can't be the only one out there right now currently a little obsessed with the new video-based live-music podcast The Take Away Shows, can I? Of course not! Originally started as a simple promotional tool for the French-language arts-and-entertainment guide La Blogothèque, the show features a brilliantly simple concept at its core; each episode, the group grabs an indie-rock band that happens to be in Paris (or sometimes other cities, but mostly Paris), then has the musician(s) play a song live as they're wandering the streets of the city, or perhaps sitting on a bench in a Metro station, or one of a hundred other things one does on a daily basis in a big city in public. The Take Away crew, then, follows the band or musician with a high-end audio recorder and HD video camera, capturing the whole thing in a vérité style; whether the stunt draws a big crowd or goes unnoticed, the reality of that moment is simply cut with some credits and posted to the group's podcast.

It's a remarkable series, made all the more exotic from it being filmed in one of the all-time great cities on the planet, with a hipster casualness to it all that makes you feel young and with-it too when you watch, no matter how old and out-of-it you actually are. I encourage you to stop by their site soon and check it out, or simply subscribe to their iTunes channel and be done with it.
