Obsession of the moment: Tooble

Tooble in action

I don't have a lot to say about today's obsession, because there's not a lot to say about it in the first place; called Tooble, it is a simple piece of freeware that does nothing else but download YouTube videos, convert them into MP4s, then add them to your iTunes movie list. Well, hooray for that! To tell you the truth, as big a fan as I am of YouTube, I am often coming across longer videos there that I then completely forget to ever go back and actually watch; the sad fact is that I've become such a slave to my iPod at this point, as have so many others, that my brain tends to forget that media files even exist unless they're logged into the iTunes interface that I am seemingly checking so often. Although Tooble isn't exactly more convenient than YouTube's original interface, in terms of just time alone -- nothing can be more convenient, after all, than simply going to a web page and watching a video -- Tooble does nicely synchronize YouTube videos with the way that so many of us watch all the rest of our digital videos these days, plus allows you to easily transfer videos to your portable video iPod if you have one, something that YouTube's native interface definitely does not make easy. Sorry, Windows owners, the only official release is a Mac one for now; they're testing a Windows version as we speak, though, and are looking for beta testers who would be interested in a sneak-preview copy.
