Photo of the day: "Summerdale Community Church," by Comtesse DeSpair

Summerdale Community Church, by Comtesse DeSpair

Today's photo of the day is entitled "Summerdate Community Church," and is by Comtesse DeSpair. Comtesse is a Chicagoan and in fact this photo was taken in the Andersonville neighborhood; the church itself was built in 1893, the same year as the Columbian Exposition (World's Fair), and was originally designed to service the large Swedish population who lived in the neighborhood at the time. By the way, Comtesse managed to get this cool antique look by using an actual antique camera, a Brownie Hawkeye Flash from 1954. You can learn more over at her personal website.

Don't forget that I actually maintain a whole page of favorite photographs over at Flickr, for those who would like to see more. To express an interest in having your own work featured, just drop me a line at cclapcenter [at] gmail.com.
