Yet more interestingness: 28 March 2008

Below are simple links to other interesting stuff I've come across on the web in the last day or two; they may or may not concern literature or photography, or indeed the arts at all. You can click here to learn more about how I compile this list and what software I use, if you're interested.

Great long article on futurist Ray Kurzweil
Wired has a nice, long, interesting article up right now about Ray Kurzweil, one of the leading proponents of the idea of the "Singularity;" that within a half-century or sooner, we will finally invent artificially-intelligent machines out of self-repairing biological parts.

1995 Newsweek article: "Nothing will come of this so-called Internet"
Paleo-Future.com points out a hilariously xenophobic article in Newsweek from just 13 years ago, scoffing at the very idea that we will one day read our newspapers through our computers.

New "deluxe" Chicago movie theatre will charge $35 for admission
No, seriously; new "deluxe" suburban movie theatre will have recliner-type chairs, seat-side service from waiters, and a $35 admission charge for a single movie. Whatever; you're the one heading to bankruptcy court, Village Roadshow, not me.

Bear Stearns CEO sells his stock, loses $900 million in one year
Worth $1 billion just a year ago, Bear Stearns CEO James Cayne sells all his stock in the company for a measly $61 million; the move is seen as his final severance from the company he single-handedly destroyed.

Adobe launches free online version of Photoshop
Created from scratch using Flex and Flash, I believe that this will mark a turning point in the history of webapps; the point when they stop being fun experiments and turn into the future of software.

Report: Fat people three times as likely to develop dementia
This is even higher than being the child of someone who gets Alzheimer's, believe it or not.

Obama: "Conservatives have turned us into a 'You're On Your Own' society"
Obama reminds us of something important in a speech yesterday: That if the US economy collapses under a Republican president, you can pretty much expect to be on your own and receive no help from the government at all. A scary warning about the future.
