Regular readers know that I am always on the lookout for entertaining and not-too-long podcasts; and in that regard, one of the video ones I've been watching for awhile now is the deceptively smart and cynical Abigail's X-Rated Teen Diary. A side project from Hayden Black, creator of online sketch-comedy group Goodnight Burbank, the premise of "Abigail" is a ridiculous one that he somehow makes work; it is the daily cellphone video diary of a teenage girl named Abigail, who happens to have the fictional "Bloomberger's Syndrome" which just happens to make her look like a balding, middle-aged man with a finely groomed goatee. As you can guess, then, this is actually Black himself playing Abigail (complete with frilly teenage-girl outfits, head ribbons and the whole nine yards); other members of Goodnight Burbank sometimes fill in as Abigail's parents, teachers, creepy uncles, "bestest friends forever" and more.
Now, I won't lie to you -- this podcast annoyed the hell out of me when I first started watching it, and it takes a little time and patience for it to finally grow on you. For example, it's important to understand that "Abigail"s ultimate goal is to make fun of clueless, celebrity-obsessed adults, not necessarily pick on actual teen girls who can't really help it; and the fact that Abigail is portrayed by an obnoxious, pop-culture-savvy, pasty overweight gay man is just icing on the cake, like tuning into "The Colbert Report" and getting a wickedly dark parody of Perez Hilton to boot. There are a thousand ways to subscribe to the podcast, so I recommend just stopping by the website and viewing all the options yourself; embedded above, Abigail's recent remarks concerning Easter and Jesus. ("So like, people of the Middle East, if you're ever thinking of converting to Christianism, you should like totally give it a go, 'cause like virgins when you die is one thing but an X-Box at Christmas is to die for!")
