Photo of the day: "Paenitentia," by Chris Dessaigne

Paenitentia, by Chris Dessaigne

Today's photo of the day is entitled "Paenitentia," and is by Chris Dessaigne. Chris is a graphic designer based out of Perpignan, France (near the Spanish border), one of a handful of towns that celebrate a bizarre Christian ritual called the "Procession de la Sanch;" held each year on Good Friday, it is an extremely old holdover from Medieval days, when European villages would combine pagan and Christian traditions into one big festival in order to appease both groups of villagers. Chris has lots of other great photos at his main account; I encourage you to stop by and check them out if you have a moment.

Don't forget that I actually maintain a whole page of favorite photographs over at Flickr, for those who would like to see more. To express an interest in having your own work featured, just drop me a line at cclapcenter [at] gmail.com.
