Today's photo of the day is entitled "Grotte di Matera," and is by a Flickr member who just goes by "valentura" there. This is a shot from the ancient city of Grottole (as it's known in English), in the Matera region of far southern Italy; unbelievably enough (or at least according to Wikipedia, anyway), the caves you see lit up here date all the way back to prehistoric times, some of the oldest evidence of human existence we have, with the Greeks then finally establishing a "modern" city here somewhere around 1200 BC, one that's been around in one form or another ever since.
Don't forget that I actually maintain a whole page of favorite photographs over at Flickr, for those who would like to see more. To express an interest in having your own work featured, just drop me a line at cclapcenter [at] gmail.com.
