Photo feature: Andrew Pielage's "Fleeting Moments"

Recently at Flickr I "favorited" a particularly witty image by Tempe photographer Andrew Pielage; that got us to talking over email, which led eventually to Andrew very kindly sharing with all of us a handful of photos from his new "Fleeting Moments" series, shot during his recent visit to Yellowstone National Park. Under each photo is a bit of explanation from Andrew behind what you're seeing; don't forget to stop by his main photostream for the larger versions, as well as all the photos found in the entire series.

Nature's Peace, by Andrew Pielage

"This capture entitled 'Nature's Peace' is a true fleeting moment. A moment where the minute you see it it starts to fade away. The clouds were moving, the fog was dissipating, the dew was melting, and all at a very fast rate. I was racing to capture this sunrise at that exact moment exactly how I saw it. Nature's Peace is the best representation of that moment I can give and one I will never forget."

Star, by Andrew Pielage

"This American Bison was just as antsy in anticipation as I was for my first rememberable experience at Old Faithful. The snow was beginning to come down. Stubborn Old Faithful was six minutes late and my faith was running out.

"Taking advantage of the tardiness, this Bison decided it was his time to take the spotlight for a moment. He was already sitting down as he started to sway his head back and forth perhaps to gain enough momentum to get him on his side, perhaps to let me know the show was about to start. He finally swayed himself onto his side and with one final swing of his powerful head he suddenly had all fours up in the air thrashing around as the white ash from Old Faithful filled the air. It was an opportunity and moment I will never forget."

Welcoming Gift, by Andrew Pielage

"I arrived the East Entrance in the early evening. After quickly getting my camp situated in Madison, I was off to photograph the last few minutes of sunset. Not knowing exactly where to go I headed toward Old Faithful. That unique Yellowstone 'smell' soon engulfed my truck and in the distance steam was rising up out of the forest green. Yellowstone was quickly opening up. Determined not to miss it, I decided to stop at the first geyser I saw so I could enjoy it.

"I didn't have to wait long. I had traveled over a thousand miles from Arizona to end the day with this. I stood alone, snapping all her different moods for 45 minutes. I felt honored. Yellowstone had giving me this as a Welcoming Gift. It was a special moment and one I will never forget."

Thanks very much, Andrew, for letting us have a look at these stunning images; and like I said, don't forget to stop by his main photostream for the entire series, as well to see much larger versions of the images you're looking at here. If you're a fellow photographer who would like to do their own mini-series of images here like Andrew has done, you can always drop me a line at cclapcenter at gmail.com and let me know.
