I'm extremely happy to announce today the center's very first literary event, something I've been wanting to do for a long time and am excited about finally getting to start this year. It's taking place on FRIDAY, MAY 28TH at 8 PM, at an ad-hoc cultural center of sorts called the Op Shop in Hyde Park (1530 E 53rd Street, right next to the Metra tracks). Centered around the theme of urban decay and urban renewal, the one-hour show will feature brand-new pieces by CCLaP authors Sally Weigel and Ben Tanzer, as well as science-fiction author Mark Brand, poet Jason Fisk, and blogger Katherine Hodges, aka 'Katherine of Chicago.' In addition, the show is being recorded, and will serve as the first-ever live-audience episode of the CCLaP Podcast too! Admittance is free, and you are encouraged to bring your own spirits.
Anyway, you can click here to automatically add the show to your own calendar (via iCal format), or head over to Facebook to add the event to your profile that way. Coming from the northside, by the way? The following two routes are most recommended, both of them shown on the map below as well: 1) BY TRAIN: Either the red- or green-line el train to 55th/Garfield, then the #55 bus east to the Metra tracks, plus a two-block walk north; or 2) BY BUS: The #6 bus from the Loop, to Hyde Park Boulevard (or 51st Street), then a two-block walk south. I hope all you locals will have a chance to come out and celebrate the first of many literary events by the center to come, or that you'll get the chance to enjoy it afterwards via the podcast. Hope to see you there!
