This has nothing to officially do with CCLaP, but is something I'm involved with that I thought you might be interested in, an event tomorrow night that Chicagoans might like coming out for...
As anyone who followed along with CCLaP's first live event earlier this summer remembers, my friends Laura Shaeffer and Rachel Tredon in Hyde Park run an "ad-hoc cultural center" of sorts called The Op Shop, in which two or three times a year they take over a different empty space owned by the University of Chicago, and transform it into a gallery/performance center. For their latest iteration, located this time at 5226 S Harper Avenue, one of the things they've been doing is bringing together interesting arts administrators with interesting artists, in order to produce potluck dinners once a week that combine performance and discussion.
Due to a last-minute back-out, I've been asked to host this Friday's potluck, which will feature Japanese sound artist Kiku Hibino; a commercial music producer during the day (his clients include Sony and Mercedes-Benz), tomorrow night he will be premiering a new conceptual piece called "Desk Theories," a one-hour performance that in his words "combines lighting, noise, images and texts all together."
I would love it if you had a chance to come by; admission is free, except of course for providing a dish for the potluck. Once again, it's this Friday, July 30th, starting around 6:30 pm, at the Op Shop at 5226 S Harper Avenue. I hope to see you there!
