I'm excited to announce that starting today, CCLaP will be offering a brand-new service to our visitors, namely the selling of rare and unique books through mail order! Facebook friends will of course already know all about this, of how I've started picking up the habit of book collecting over the last year; it's partly a new middle-aged hobby, partly being done in the hopes of making a small profit online, but mostly being done for the purposes of extremely long-term investment, to come to actual financial fruition only in another forty years or so (i.e. when I'm in my eighties and hopefully ready to retire), and in the meanwhile used mostly as collateral for small loans and the like.
I don't really have the money right now to be a high-end book collector (most of CCLaP's profits are instead funneled straight back into improving the center); and so that's why right now I concentrate on collecting first editions and especially signed first editions of Postmodernist novels from the 1960s through early 2000s, which nicely dovetails into the idea of this being a middle-aged hobby since right now it's still fairly easy to find first editions of '60s, '70s and '80s novels for literally a dollar or two at yard sales and used bookstores. But at the same time, it's true that I'm starting to collect a growing amount of titles from the Early Modernist years and even the Victorian Era; and although most of my collection so far from those decades have been put together for eclectic purposes, and are usually so obscure or beat up to not really be worth any serious money, I do at least have a small and growing set of legitimately valuable books from those years building up as well.
Like I said, my main goal these days is to build up a collection that will only truly be impressive in another two, three, four decades from now; but I also thought it'd be fun to offer these books for sale right this minute as well, since I can do so for no extra cost through the main CCLaP website and avoid all the listing fees and other requirements of places like eBay, Amazon and ABEbooks.com. The latest list of all titles currently for sale can always be found at [cclapcenter.com/rarebooks]; and since the current collection consists of around 50 titles or so, I'll also be posting near-daily listings of the entire set over the next few months here at the main blog, loaded with lots of supplementary information in the hopes that you'll find them interesting even if you're not in a buying mood yourself. I hope you enjoy this new addition to the CCLaP website, and please always feel free to drop me a line at cclapcenter [at] gmail.com for any further questions or requests for specific photos when it comes to any particular book being sold.
