All right! Just three more weeks before the October 8th release of CCLaP's newest original book, a collection of essays about 21st-century Jewishness entitled Famous Drownings in Literary History, by an Ohio professor named Kevin Haworth (the very first non-Chicago author in our catalog, in fact -- that's how good this book is). And as always, now that we're finishing up the editing process, it's time to call on our team of volunteer proofreaders, aka the "CCLaP Army," to help us give the manuscript a final "beta test" for spelling, grammar, layout and more! This is a crucial part of the publishing process here at the center, since we can't afford to actually hire proofers, and don't have a team of undergraduate interns at our disposal like many academic presses; as I'm sure you know, this is often the one single thing that will make or break a basement-press book, is merely whether all the hundreds and hundreds of mistakes in that manuscript were caught and fixed before publication, which means that we heavily rely on all of you to help us get these books into as good a shape as humanly possible. If you've ever downloaded our free ebooks and have felt guilty about never giving us money for them, this is a great chance to "karmically pay" us back, so I encourage you to drop me a line at cclapcenter [at] gmail.com and let us know of your interest. I look forward to hearing from you! (Oh, and don't forget that you can pre-purchase a paper copy of the book right this second if you'd like; this immensely helps us pay upfront for the massive postage costs of all the review copies we need to send out as well, and also guarantees that you get your copy right on October 8th when the book officially comes out.)
