Just two weeks until Mark R. Brand performs at the newest edition of "The CCLaP Sessions!" For those who don't know, this is the center's brand-new monthly reading series, held in our brand-new "Studio 505" tiny performance venue (i.e. my brand-new tiny apartment in the Uptown neighborhood); featuring only one writer per show, reading an entire half-hour from their book, these are designed to be intimate and exclusive events for a maximum audience of twenty, featuring free food and liquor in a candlelit performance space. Mark's new book with the center, the speculative story collection Long Live Us, has been doing quite well since coming out last month, so we're looking forward to having him at the Studio to present one of the daring, always entertaining stories found in this collection. Here's the Facebook invite, and here's the Google Calendar one, and here's an ICS file for just adding to whatever calendar you want (Mac's iCal, Windows' Outlook, etc); and of course, no matter which option, make sure to RSVP us directly by email at cclapcenter [at] gmail.com, since there are literally only 13 seats left for this at the time I'm posting this.
And hey, exciting news -- we've just announced a special one-time-only event coming to Studio 505 on Friday, November 15th! That's when my childhood friend, St. Louis musician and writer Ken Kase, will be coming in town to perform a brand-new one-person show entitled "Words With Songs." Designed exclusively for this event, it will be a combination of Ken's smart and catchy pop music with selections from his new book, Seven Sonnets, exploring the ways each informed the other; and if the recording comes out well, we'll even be releasing it as a live album at iTunes next year. As always, it's free admission, with free food and liquor served as well (but BYOB if you want top-shelf stuff); but make sure to RSVP right away, because Ken has a huge fan base here in Chicago (not just for his solo work, but also as an occasional member of The Sun Sawed In 1/2), so seats will be going fast. Here's the Facebook invite, and here's the Google Calendar one, and here's the ICS file. I hope to see you locals at both of these events!
